View Gallery

A week ago I was asked to show my latest work to Sarah and Nick at View Gallery in Bristol.  And to my delight they have decided to include it in their Christmas exhibition which runs from November 19th to the end of the year along with myself the other featured artists are, Beth Carter, Jimmy Galvin, Amber Merrick-Potter and Harriet White.

The exhibition includes abstract oils with vibrant colour, a powerful interpretation of degenerating landscape, and photo-realism with drama. The sculptures tell stories of child-like fantasy with an undercurrent of the macabre and there is a beautiful haunting feel to the music and video.

If you get change do take a look there’s some exciting work on display.

WHAT'09

Just finished tidying up our house after a very successful Windmill Hill Arts Trail. The house looked fab thanks to Cathy Haworth from Lemonade Studio and her amazing illustrations and James Freelander-Boss and fantastic t-shirts.

Its all over for another year but you can check out images from the day at flickr.

Camera Works

Monday, October 5, 2009

Just been doing a bit of research on old photographic techniques like Cyanotype and Gum bichromate and came across references to and old photographic quaterly called Camera Works and wanted to share it with anyone out there.

Published by Alfred Stieglitz from 1903 to 1917. It is known for its many high-quality photogravures by some of the most important photographers in the world and its editorial purpose to establish photography as a fine art. It has been called “consummately intellectual” , “by far the most beautiful of all photographic magazines”, and “a portrait of an age [in which] the artistic sensibility of the nineteenth century was transformed into the artistic awareness of the present day.”

You can find more out about Camera Works here or take a look at the Camera Works book at Tashen, think I’m going to get it as soon as its pay day.

Light Brush Mark 2

So after searching high and low I ventured into Aladins Cave (East Street  Bedminster) and found a right piece of tat. But Oerfect for taking apart and using in the mark 2 of my light brush the next step on from the painting with light work seen earlier in this blog.

With the adding of part of a bike tube and a knackered old lens I’ve made a tool that is showig real potential that hopefully you’ll see over the next few weeks and hopefully some finished pieces at the up coming Windmill Hill Arts Trail.

Painting with light

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Just started some new experiments in the darkroom here’s one of the early results.

Painting ith light

Only just getting started with this but think its got sme real potential. It was created by using fibre optic wire inserted into the enlager head and then to paint with them directly on to colour paper.

Film Ends

Lovely sunny day outside, but I’d rather spend it in a small, dark smelly room and this is one of the pieces I have to show for it. You can check out the rest of this series of work here film ends.
