Post-photography exhibition

Well I am very excited to announce that from the 6 - 18 August I will be showing the latest collection of photographic experiments to emerge from my darkroom at The Photo Gallery under Photographique in bristol.  Opening night 5 August 6.30 - 9.

Within the confines of his darkroom Alec subverts traditional and modern technologies to challenge preconceptions of what photography is, in the constant search for a new photographic vocabulary. Forgot about cameras and f-stops this work engages with photography at its elemental level, whether it’s painting with light directly on to a light sensitive surface’s or collecting and printing the discarded ends of films, each piece of work confront are beliefs of what a photograph as and asks use to question them.

View Gallery

A week ago I was asked to show my latest work to Sarah and Nick at View Gallery in Bristol.  And to my delight they have decided to include it in their Christmas exhibition which runs from November 19th to the end of the year along with myself the other featured artists are, Beth Carter, Jimmy Galvin, Amber Merrick-Potter and Harriet White.

The exhibition includes abstract oils with vibrant colour, a powerful interpretation of degenerating landscape, and photo-realism with drama. The sculptures tell stories of child-like fantasy with an undercurrent of the macabre and there is a beautiful haunting feel to the music and video.

If you get change do take a look there’s some exciting work on display.
